about

Prepare to have your mind blown -- and discover a whole new genre of funky grooves! Henri "Kike" Guedon was a French West Indian percussionist who recorded in both Paris and New York -- crafting a really unique style that brought together American, Caribbean, and Parisian takes on more traditional Afro-Cuban sounds! Guedon puts his bongo work right up in the front of the mix -- giving the tunes a crackling percussive-heavy drive from the get-go, and smoking up the rhythms with a style that's even more compelling than 70s New York salsa. Most tracks feature vocals, heavy horns, and a really full-on groove that reminds us of the best of Fania at the time -- yet which also crackles with lots of interesting cross-cultural references as well! Titles include "Guajira Contestacion", "Shiga Swing", "Faut Pas Pousser", "Ritmo Moderno", "Los Antillanos De Paris", and "Brujeira".
